No tweeting for you!

In 3 days since I've launched this blog site and a twitter account I have been locked out from my twitter account and waiting for blogger.com to put up a notice of shut down. I have not yet started to touch on what I am going to get into when I start to post real topics. The twitter account issue is pretty cool since there is only one tweet that links back to this website.

The Internet is here and we shall seek the truth together instead of a few men trying to control us.

Improve Sikh Education?

Sikh Spirit Foundation is asking people to submit a proposal on how to use $25,000 to improve Sikh Education or your local Gurduara for a chance to win an iPod!.

I came across this project today, seems very interesting and I am looking forward to reading what kind of ideas are generated.

My 2 cents on this would be to change the focus on who is being educated and how. Let's focus on the young adults , new parents and parents who want to know how to teach/reach their children or social peers about Sikh Core Values and why certain things are being practiced.

We need to start to answer the infamous question "But why?" Instead of telling them "That is the way it is and that's it".

The Youth now have the Internet -- a fast and easy way to get information which might not be always correct but aleast it's an answer to a question which their parents did not even attempt to understand.

We need to educate our young parents to have open converation about topics, keep learning and growing. It is okay to tell your children or peers that you will look into it and get back to them. This will help build trust and respect and children will be more open to talk about real issues with you instead of trying to reach out to friends and strangers online first.

Keep it in the family

Interesting look at the family tree of the Sikh Gurus.

Bow down

We all see parents forcing their children to bow down before the Guru Granth Sahib and they start early as 3 months old but is there real value in this?

If we are going to expect the next generation to carry on values and beliefs we need to teach them to respect knowledge and the Granth Sahib's teachings and values not the hard cover and paper it is made of.

I believe by teaching people the core values of Sikhi and general concept of respect for knowledge we will have a generation that will without thought express genuine feeling on the actions they perform instead of a notation of what is expected of them from a societal stand point.

Hello World

"Whatever that is exposed to the light becomes the light"

We are living in exciting times with the Internet being a channel for connecting people across the planet, we are growing at an accelerating rate for the truth.

With all the injustice and corruption in the world we are starting to become more introspective to answer questions about how we feel about our roles in this world and in our communities.
